Day 5, we are continuing the challenge of doubling the popularity of spinoff Cactus Haiku in one month. First the chart at the top and then whatever strategies I am trying out.
This Wednesday no spike. Actually same as last week in pageviews. More visitors though and likes were double any of the previous Wednesdays.
I will say it’s kind of weird that WordPress stats show 29 pageviews while Google Analytics show 88; WordPress 15 visitors and GA shows 65 users. But they match pretty closely on out of the USA counts. Just the GA USA counts are much higher. I have GA set to minus my own ISP which I think WordPress also does. That’s the thing about stats — how are they measured makes a difference in the counts you get.
I am thinking of dropping the challenge to end when I double instead continuing going a whole month. Maybe do a follow up on stats. By then, some of the other strategies will have borne fruit or not. I am finding doing stats everyday is making me all googly-eyed. I also think I am going to truncate these reports with just a quick summary starting on Saturday (that’s the day i started) so I don’t spend so much time writing them.
Problem is my attention is wandering already. Focusing on increasing traffic is not so much my thing. I am wanting to learn to do ebooks, plus a friend has hired me to update her website so I need to do something else for a few days. We’ll see.
So let’s see how I did yesterday (Wednesday) compared to previous Wednesdays:
|pinterest referred*||0 / 0||5 / 0||— /0||— / 3||–/ 0|
|facebook referred*||0 / 2||0 / 0||— / 0||— / 0||–/ 0|
|wordpress referred*||3 / 2||0 / 0||— / 0||–/ 3||–/ 0|
*pinterest, facebook, wordpress are showing google analytics stats / wp stats (since I only signed up for google analytics this week, there are not stats for prior weeks for GA)
**I have set up google analytics to minus my own isp so that it doesn’t get added into the numbers
No new followers today. First time in almost a week after gaining 12 the last few days. I have 14 followers now compared to 2 in September.
Strategy 3: Pinterest Group Boards
Strategy 4: Facebook Group Pages
I didn’t post to the groups today. Waiting for someone else to post in Haiku & Senryu Garden before I post another one. A few posted today in the other group, so I will add one on the 12th. My sister is sweet and shared my senryu Exceptional. I noticed that my cat Pinkie’s poem Tame “reached” 66 people and got 2 likes. Still not seeing much crossover from FB to Cactus haiku. Feeling like this is wasting time and I’d rather write.
Strategy 5: Medium Publication Pages
Day before yesterday, I applied to put two more poems into the Haiku Hub Publication. Still waiting to hear back. I applied to be accepted to another poetry publication on the 12th. May have to change the crossover to Medium by leaving the poems but erasing the essays I write under them so they are only the poem.
Strategy 6: Instagram
Didn’t do anything here
Strategy 7: Challenges
I am feeling like not investing much time in FB and the other social networks. I like the visualness of Pinterest so will stick with that for the time being.
Problem is I think the social networks are pulling me away from writing. On Restructuring Life, it’s also bugging me that I haven’t written on several other topics I’ve meant to. There is only so much time in the day. A few days of focusing on increasing pageviews/visitors is making me realize I’d rather focus on writing. I want to be popular, sure, but I’d rather write.
I spent some time today researching pingbacks. Trying to find away to get pingbacks to show visually like they do on the Daily Post but no luck. Also while a person can paste a link into a comment, they can’t paste an image. However, I read somewhere that you as the editor can paste an image into a comment — and if someone pastes an image link, you can change it into a showing image. When I tried it though on another account, something in my setting stripped out the links on the comment. I will try it again below.
I still want to do the cat haiku challenge though so I might just do it as pingback links and give up getting it to appear like in Daily Post.
I also came across a couple other haiku challenges that look fun to do.
I received 10 likes today. Yay! it does look like my new average. Here is my happy applause for the people who liked me on the 11th.
So what improved?
- Visitors are up this Wednesday compared to past 3 ones.
- Likes are holding steady at 10, double likes than on past few Wednesdays.
Anyways, that’s it for our 5th day of the challenge. I am happy with my improvements but they are slowing down a bit today. Today the 12th is the early AM (in orange) so doesn’t count but you can see how this little challenge has improved my stats over the past few weeks creating a more consistent higher average at Cactus Haiku.
And as the bunny says, “That’s all folks!”
